Grayson, Come Back!

Grayson is a bright, active child who loves school, but sometimes his emotions grow too big, too fast. When frustration builds, he runs away from class, the lunchroom, and P.E.

With calm support from trusted adults, Grayson learns simple coping tools he can use right away. Each school moment follows a reassuring pattern kids can recognize:

  • Grayson faces a problem or challenge

  • Big emotions show up and become overwhelming

  • A trusted adult helps him calm down and return to learning

The repetition helps children practice the same strategies again and again until they become familiar. By the end, Grayson starts using the tools on his own, showing progress step by step.

From the Author

This story began after working closely with my son Grayson’s IEP team and learning, together, how to support him through big emotions and social challenges. Like many children, Grayson struggled when feelings became overwhelming, especially in school settings. With consistent support from caring adults, he began learning simple ways to pause, ask for help, and stay connected instead of running away.

The strategies in this book reflect what we practiced both at school and at home, reinforcing the same calm, supportive approach across environments. Over time, Grayson learned that help was always available and that he had tools he could use when emotions felt too big.

This book represents a shared success. It is a celebration of Grayson’s growth, the dedication of his IEP team, and the power of consistent support working together.
